Let’s Recap Week 15 before we move to Week 16..
When God’s People Drift — Yet God’s Mercy Remains..
In Week 15, we journeyed through the Book of Judges — one of the most sobering and revealing books in Scripture. Judges showed us a repeated cycle:
- Israel turns away from God
- God allows oppression
- Israel cries out
- God raises a deliverer
- Peace returns — temporarily
- Then the cycle repeats
Through leaders like Deborah, Gideon, Jephthah, and Samson, we saw God use imperfect and unlikely people to rescue His nation. These stories reminded us that God does not look for perfection — He looks for willing hearts.
Yet as Judges progressed, we saw a deeper decline. Israel did not just struggle externally; they began to drift internally. False worship emerged, moral confusion increased, and unity among God’s people broke down. The book ends with a powerful and sobering statement:
“In those days Israel had no king; everyone did what was right in their own eyes.” (Judges 21:25)
This was not just about leadership — it revealed a spiritual reality: when God is no longer recognized as King, chaos follows.
But even in the midst of failure, one truth remained constant — God never abandoned His people. His patience, mercy, and faithfulness continued, quietly preparing the way for what comes next.
Week 16 Introduction — From Chaos to Hope: Ruth and 1 Samuel 1–12
As we move into Week 16, we step into a beautiful transition — from the darkness of Judges to the hope of redemption in the Book of Ruth and the beginnings of leadership transformation in 1 Samuel chapters 1–12.
The Book of Ruth takes place during the time of Judges, yet it tells a completely different story. While Judges showed national decline, Ruth reveals quiet faithfulness. While chaos filled the land, God was working behind the scenes through ordinary people like Ruth, Naomi, and Boaz.
Through this story, we will see:
- God’s providence in ordinary life
- Faithfulness in difficult seasons
- Redemption and restoration
- How God works quietly to fulfill His greater plan
Most importantly, Ruth sets the stage for the future King — David — and ultimately points us to Jesus Christ.
Then, as we step into 1 Samuel chapters 1–12, we will witness another major transition. God raises Samuel — a prophet, judge, and leader — who bridges the period of Judges and the beginning of kingship in Israel.
We will explore:
- The faithful prayer of Hannah
- The birth and calling of Samuel
- The spiritual renewal of Israel
- The people’s request for a king
- The beginning of a new chapter in Israel’s history
Week 16 will show us something powerful:
Even when God’s people drift, God is already preparing restoration.
From Judges’ chaos to Ruth’s faithfulness and Samuel’s leadership, we will see God moving quietly but powerfully — guiding His people toward hope, renewal, and His greater plan.
Week 16 invites us to look for God not only in dramatic miracles — but also in quiet faithfulness, prayer, and everyday obedience.
