Week 14 Recap — The Book of Joshua..
This week we journeyed through the Book of Joshua and witnessed one of the most powerful transitions in Israel’s history — from wandering to inheritance, from promise to fulfillment.
After 40 years in the wilderness, God led His people into the Promised Land under Joshua’s leadership. We saw:
- God calling Joshua to be strong and courageous (Joshua 1)
- The miraculous crossing of the Jordan River, showing God goes before His people (Joshua 3–4)
- The fall of Jericho, reminding us that victory comes through obedience, not human strength (Joshua 6)
- The consequences of hidden sin in Achan’s story (Joshua 7)
- God fighting for Israel — even making the sun stand still (Joshua 10)
- The distribution of inheritance and God’s faithfulness in fulfilling promises (Joshua 13–21)
- A call to unity and faithfulness (Joshua 22)
- Joshua’s final challenge: “Choose this day whom you will serve” (Joshua 24)
The book ends with a powerful truth:
God fulfilled every promise — but the people were responsible to remain faithful.
Joshua shows us that entering God’s promises is only the beginning — remaining faithful is the real challenge.
Week 15 Introduction — Entering the Book of Judges
As we move into Week 15, we now step into the Book of Judges — and the tone changes dramatically.
Where Joshua shows victory through obedience, Judges reveals struggle through disobedience.
Joshua ends with faithfulness.
Judges begins with compromise.
Joshua shows unity.
Judges shows division.
Joshua shows God’s people trusting Him.
Judges shows God’s people repeatedly forgetting Him.
The Book of Judges introduces a sobering cycle:
- People turn away from God
- Oppression follows
- People cry out to God
- God raises a deliverer (judge)
- Peace returns — temporarily
- Then the cycle repeats
This reveals something deeply human:
Even after seeing God’s faithfulness, the human heart can still drift away.
How Week 14 Lays the Foundation for Week 15
Joshua ended with a warning:
“Choose this day whom you will serve…” (Joshua 24:15)
Judges begins by showing what happens when people fail to make that choice consistently.
Joshua showed:
- God’s faithfulness
- Promises fulfilled
- A call to obedience
Judges shows:
- Human forgetfulness
- Partial obedience
- The need for continual dependence on God
Joshua shows how to enter God’s promises
Judges shows what happens when we forget God after receiving them
This makes Judges incredibly relevant today.
Because like Israel:
- We experience God’s goodness
- Yet sometimes drift away
- God disciplines, restores, and calls us back
Judges reveals not only human weakness — but God’s relentless mercy.
What to Expect in Week 15
In the Book of Judges, we will meet:
- Unlikely leaders
- Imperfect deliverers
- Repeated failures
- God’s continued mercy
Most importantly, Judges points forward to the need for a greater deliverer — ultimately fulfilled in Jesus Christ.
Because Judges ends with one of the most sobering statements:
“Everyone did what was right in their own eyes.” (Judges 21:25)
And this prepares us for the coming of a true King.
Week 15 Invitation
As we step into Judges, we are invited to reflect:
- Are we remaining faithful after receiving God’s blessings?
- Are we drifting in subtle ways?
- Are we trusting God daily?
Week 15 will be a powerful and honest journey — revealing both human weakness and God’s unfailing mercy.
Let us step forward with open hearts, ready to learn more about God’s patience, justice, and redeeming love.
