A Quick Pause, Then Forward Again..
If you’ve been walking with us closely, you may have noticed something unusual.
We paused Genesis at chapter 11, and instead of moving directly into Genesis 12, we stepped into the Book of Job Week 2.
This wasn’t a detour—it was intentional.
As we’ve shared from the beginning, this journey is not about reading the Bible in the order the books appear, but about reading Scripture as the events likely unfolded in history. Many scholars place the life of Job after the Flood and before the call of Abraham, making Job a powerful voice from the ancient world—one that wrestles with suffering, righteousness, and God’s sovereignty long before Israel existed as a nation.
Now, having listened to Job’s questions and God’s response, we return to the unfolding story in Genesis.
And we return at a turning point.
Back to Genesis 12: When God Calls One..
Genesis 12 marks a major shift in the biblical story.
Up to this point, God has been dealing with humanity as a whole—creation, the fall, the flood, the nations. Now, God narrows His focus and calls one person through whom He will begin restoring what was broken.
This week, we return to Genesis and focus our reading on Genesis 12 through 21.
In these chapters, you’ll encounter:
- The call of Abram and the beginning of a covenant
- Faith that steps forward without full clarity
- Promises that seem delayed, tested, and even threatened
- Human failure mixed with divine faithfulness
- The slow, patient unfolding of God’s redemptive plan
You’ll see God shaping not just a family, but a future.
You’ll see faith grow—not in perfection, but in trust.
And you’ll begin to see how the promise of blessing to all families of the earth starts to take visible form.
An Invitation to Read Curiously
As you read Genesis 12–21, read slowly.
Read expectantly.
Read with curiosity.
Ask:
- What is God revealing about Himself?
- What does faith look like when the future is uncertain?
- How does God work through imperfect people to accomplish perfect purposes?
This story unfolds chapter by chapter, promise by promise. And the more attentively we read, the more we begin to recognize that God is not rushed—yet He is always moving.
So let’s step back into Genesis together.
The journey continues.
